Concrete is the structural backbone of every steel building — delivering strength, stability, and long-term performance from the ground up.

Lobster Tanks + Full Foundations

This lobster facility in Grand Manan, NB showcases integrated concrete holding tanks built directly into the pre-engineered building foundation system. The coordinated design allows for efficient structural support, optimized workflow, and long-term durability in a harsh coastal environment. Careful planning ensured seamless alignment between the tank infrastructure and the steel superstructure.

Biogas Digesters

This biogas digester project at the Toronto Zoo featured three circular reinforced concrete tanks constructed using 25-metre curved rebar and specialized plastic forming systems. In addition to the tank structures, we completed the associated building foundations. The primary digester included a suspended concrete lid, fully formed and integrated into the tank wall system.

Piers, Footings, Frost Walls

Lobster Tanks + Full Foundations

This full foundation system was completed for Metrolinx as part of the new Eglinton LRT project. The design required a high level of precision, including full SM insulation protecting both the foundation walls and slab. This is one of many foundations we construct using this proven layout, a common and efficient design for pre-engineered steel buildings.

Large Clear Span / Hangars

This 212-foot-wide clear-span airplane hangar foundation was constructed for a private client just outside Toronto. The project incorporated double layers of 25-metre reinforcing steel to ensure maximum structural integrity. The primary structural element consisted of a continuous 18-foot-wide by 212-foot-long thickened footing, engineered to support the expansive clear-span steel superstructure.

Large Clear Span / Hangars

This is a typical floating slab foundation designed for an unheated garage, a very common and cost-effective solution for pre-engineered steel buildings. Built in the Bruce Peninsula area, this style of foundation provides reliable performance with simplified construction. We complete many projects using this proven and efficient slab design.

Structural Slab Radiant Heat

This structural slab foundation in Ottawa, Ontario features cast-in-place perimeter forms, high-strength reinforcing steel, and in-floor radiant tube heating integrated throughout the slab. This method provides superior durability, energy efficiency, and long-term performance. It is one of many pre-engineered steel building foundations we construct using this proven design approach.

This Octaform tank is the tallest of its kind that we are aware of in Canada, measuring 60 feet in diameter and exceeding 30 feet in height. The structure was reinforced with 25-metre curved rebar to accommodate the circular geometry and significant lateral loading forces. It is capped with a massive 18-inch-thick reinforced concrete lid, engineered to span the diameter and provide long-term structural integrity. This project represents a major achievement in cast-in-place circular concrete construction, combining complex forming, heavy reinforcing schedules, and precise concrete placement.

Octaform stay-in-place plastic forming systems are highly versatile and can be used for wastewater tanks, digesters, fire suppression reservoirs, agricultural containment structures, retaining walls, and industrial liquid storage applications. The system is particularly effective for circular tanks where uniform wall thickness, structural continuity, and watertight performance are critical.

The advantages of leave-in-place plastic forms are significant. They eliminate traditional form stripping, reduce labor, and accelerate construction schedules. The integrated form system provides a durable interior and exterior finish, corrosion resistance, and enhanced insulation compatibility. Additionally, the panels create a consistent wall profile while protecting the concrete from environmental exposure. For projects requiring long service life, chemical resistance, and structural efficiency, Octaform systems provide a cost-effective and technically superior solution.

This foundation system utilizes micro piles, commonly known as screw piles, combined with a reinforced concrete grade beam and engineered void form beneath. This design is widely used throughout Alberta and Saskatchewan and is becoming increasingly common across Canada where soil conditions and frost profiles demand deep foundation support.

This particular project was completed in Fort McMurray, Alberta under extreme winter conditions, with temperatures reaching minus 40 degrees. Despite the harsh climate, our team maintained full production schedules and delivered uncompromised quality. The helical screw piles were installed to engineered depths to achieve required load capacities, transferring structural loads beyond frost influence and poor surface soils.

The reinforced grade beam distributes steel building column reactions efficiently while the void form system protects against frost heave and expansive soil movement. This method provides a structurally stable, cost-effective solution for pre-engineered steel buildings in challenging geotechnical environments.
